Osberts Bark

[audio:osbert.mp3]

We hopscotched through sidewalks built houses in the trees
and we gave our thanks when the rains came and broke apart the streets.

we pirouetted in a field of wet grass and leaves
when the sun filled your lungs you started to weep
and said “I don’t feel the same anymore
no, I don’t feel the same anymore”

We chalked our lives to rides on the ferris wheel
the summer nights without flashlights
the ground littered with orange peels.
but I don’t feel the same anymore
no, I don’t feel the same anymore

If you see my mom please tell her I won’t be home
If you see my pa don’t tell him I’m all alone
just like he said I’d be.

We rewrote our old notes and tore them up for fire
on those rain soaked streets could we have been higher?

When the fire fire light was like skipping stones
in and out of our mouths and thru our bones
remember June and how soon we passed the hours
we rode our bikes at midnight to the water tower
and our voices rang as we sang thru a tunnel of trees
la da da da la de

but I don’t feel the same anymore
no, I don’t feel the same anymore

If you see my mom please tell her I have changed
If you see my pa don’t tell him we’ve made the same mistakes.
